Introduction

Kisan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (KLBSL) is a national level microfinance institution licensed by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal as a ‘D’ class financial institution. This institution is incorporated as a public limited company under the Companies Act, 2063 (2006).

KLBSL has a very successful history of merger of five microfinance institutions (namely the then NRN Laghubitta, Kisan Microfinance, Dibya Laghubitta, Creative Laghubitta and Ramarosan Laghubitta) within a short span of time. The lead role of merger of these institutions were played by NRN Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. NRN Laghubitta was promoted by Non-Residence Nepalese, bankers, retired government officials and other reputed personalities. Initially NRN acquired two smaller size regional level microfinance institutions namely Creative and Ramarosan on 24th Bhadra 2076 (10th September 2019). Later NRN, Kisan and Dibya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha merged into each other and started joint operation in the name of NRN Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. on 29th Asar 2077 (13th July 2020).  With the decision of Special General Meeting conducted on 18th Ashwin 2077(4th October 2020) the name of the institution has been changed into Kisan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. The head office of the institution is located in Lamkichuha Municipality ward no. 4, Kailali and the corporate office is in Budhanilakantha Municiplaity ward no. 8, Kathmandu. The KLBSL presently has 137 branch network in 48 different districts of Nepal.

The main objective of this institution is to provide financial services such as loan, deposits, micro insurance, remittance services etc. to low-income people, especially the women. Apart from the financial services the institution provides non-financial services like financial literacy training, skill development training, entrepreneurship development training to its members. Similarly, KLBSL also extends client protection supports like maternity support, financial support during natural calamities, funeral expenses, medical expenses, scholarship to members’ children etc.

KLBSL has strategic plan to expand its services throughout the country covering all districts and maximum numbers of local municipalities so that low-income people throughout the country could get financial services as per their need at their doorsteps.
